Damn, one of the better breakcore songs more or less wasted. I really hoped someone would use Szamar Madar but I hoped even more that the guy editing would have the brains not to make it a flash fest or at least do something innovative...
So yea, not too impressed.
| | kezM said: | | | it's not trying to be the mainstream thing, it's my own personal view transformed in to a story.
|
Actually this was pretty much the mainstream thing, this is what a mainstream editor would do with a breakcore song and as such it wasn't really innovative. Synching pretty much everything is the obvious thing although in few scenes you managed to make the synching actually look good (meaning that you did it without relying solely on flashing).
I'm sad that now someone with real vision might come along, use the song in a more creative way and get flamed for reusing it.
Also, if this was a trailer then it'd make sense to put "from the makers of..." or other stuff like that in the beginning. However this was not a trailer, the viewer is already watching your movie so no need to advertise it or your
previous movies. Looks bad.
Oh ye and as a whole the intro was bad too.
All in all a fairly good movie on cod standards (at least the effort's there), but at the same time a big disappointment to me. |

Erm, just because you don't share the same vision doesn't make it any less innovative. If everyone saw things the same way the world would be boring.
People express themselves in different ways. It doesn't matter if someone uses the song again. That's totally irrelivent to the medium of frag movies. I've heard linkin park more times than I'd ever wish too in decent movies. Mainstream?
I don't suppose you go around watching shakespeare plays saying 'omfg you've ruined this script' to every theatre company in the world?
Just out of curiousity how many movies have you seen that have these crazy effects in time with the music? I haven't seen any, except those build ups with cheesey dance music which can't be that hard to sync.
Being a critic is fun, I know because I'm a cynical bastard, but you need to have more than one point of view. |

The thing is, movie makers tend to share more or less the same vision. As soon as I realised which song was used I knew what to expect and in the end those expectations got fulfilled. Fast synch based mainly on flashing plus kez's habit of sacrificing clear content on the altar of effects. It's the mainstream approach. The technical side wasn't bad, the synch was accurate and all but I won't call it innovative.
Recycling songs does matter. This has been witnessed over and over again. It's not a deal breaker but causes a lot of unnecessary fighting, so much that movie makers have actually changed soundtracks if someone happens to use the same music.
I have seen tons of movies with great synch. Haven't counted how many, sorry. I'm surprised if you haven't.
Note that my point of view is based on the whole of movie scene, not just cod-movies at tek9. I have high standards and when I say "fairly good" it means that it definetly isn't a bad movie. It just wasn't what it could've been especially with that song.
EDIT: Oh and the music video of Szamar Madar might also give a bit of insight on the matter www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rjyVF6a4xo

a movie isn't based on effects is it? so why should a fragmovie be based on effects? everything else should be nice as the music, sync, etc but to much effect like this ruins a framovie imo. There should be effects but not to much like in real movies. |

Azn: In my opinion the music was used in a really imaginative (As imaginative as you can get considering it's a CoD4 clip.) way, no matter how shit it actually was. In fact you can't really get more innovative, because of the fragmovie standards set by the community. What I'm trying to say is that you can't really make the fragmovie look like the music video. (The YouTube-link you posted. I suppose you found it very innovative.) You probably aren't much of a reviewer due to your unrequited way of thinking and your unthinkable standards - high standards as you put it.
P.S. Don't bother replying me and telling how wrong I am, because I visit this site once or twice in a decade and therefore I most likely will not read your following posts. And yeah: Get your grammar and mistakes in spelling sorted.

rauL, writing that bit about replying to you is pointless. This is a discussion on an open forum so when you write to me you write to everyone else here which means that I'm kinda obligated to answer even if you won't ever read it.
| | rauL said: | | | And yeah: Get your grammar and mistakes in spelling sorted.

You really got me there. Sorry for being incomprehensible.
About me posting that music video; even if you didn't miss my bad spelling you did miss the point I was trying to make.
What I was pointing out was the obvious approach to breakcore music. In this movie the obvious approach was highlighted by the obvious form of synching: flashing. That's where the chance for real innovative editing flew more or less out the window. The potential in the music wasn't fully realised. Still, kez showed glimpses of hope here as I previously said.
I can understand you complaining about my style of reviewing, I don't praise as much as I like to find flaws but how is holding high standards making me a bad reviewer (and while we're at it, let's not forget that I said the movie was fairly good)?
When I bother to write about a movie I compare it to the movies I've liked the most. Dunno about you but to me that seems to be the only honest way of reviewing.
That being said, nothing I wrote here has been a proper review. I could do one but I can't help feeling that it'd be more or less wasted on tek9. |
