| The location of the SteelSeries eSport Challenge, located in the city centre of Copenhagen. |
As promised in our announcement of the
€10,000 SteelSeries eSport Challenge Call of Duty 4 event, I've decided to provide everyone with an overview of the possible ways to get to the SEC event, what it costs and list some of the accomodations close to the event.
The SteelSeries eSport Challenge will be taking place at the main square of the Axeltorv street in the centre of Copenhagen between the 30th of April and the 2nd of May. What makes the location unique, besides the fact that it's in the centre of the capital of Denmark, is that the competition will take place in a giant and professional (and heated) tent on the Axeltorv square, with of course all the comfort you would normally find indoors.
Assuming there are no delays during the Call of Duty 4 competition, the tournament is expected to end at around 24:00 CET on Saturday the 1st of May (Day 2), which means there is enough time for everyone to explore the city of Copenhagen, go on a cultural tour if they wish to and explore the nightlife. The official tournament schedule can be found
HERE.
Overall, Copenhagen, who hosted the 2009 International Climate Conference, is very neat and organised city and is known for being one of the places with the best 'quality of life'. If you're interested in finding out more about what the city has to offer, have a look at the official tourism site of Copenhagen,
www.visitcopenhagen.com.
A map of the location:
FlyingFrom Copenhagen Airport at Kastrup to Axeltorv, CopenhagenThe Copenhagen Airport at Kastrup is located 8 KM south of the city centre of Copenhagen, the capital of the Denmark, which, in 2009, had a metropolitan population of 1,875,179.
The Copenhagen Airport is the biggest airport in the country and most major carriers go there. Carriers such as Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Lufthansa have very regular flights to Copenhagen, but are in most cases not the cheapest alternative.
Norwegian airlines are often not that expensive, but we would really advice everyone to have a look around at sites such as
Expedia.com, since the prizes vary a lot from country to country and an expensive carrier for some could be one of the cheaper alternatives for others.
Ryanair lands at both Aarhus and Billund, but both are approximately 3 hours from Copenhagen by car. So, if you're planning to rent a car and are looking for alternative airports, it might be an idea to look at flights going to Malmö, Sweden, which is located 40 km from Copenhagen.
For any type of public transport, have a look at
Rejseplanen.dk, which is available in English. It allows you to get a good idea of the types of transport available, the schedule and how long it takes for you to arrive at your destination. In Denmark they make use of zones. The area is divided into zones and depending on the destination (Copenhagen Airport to the Copenhagen City Centre = 3 zones), you can use any kind of public transport (bus, metro, train) for the same price.
3 zones will cost you 34.50 Danish Krone, which is approximately €4,60. Each ticket is valid for 1 to 2 hours (depending on amount of zones) and you can use them on every type of public transport within the timelimit.
By TaxiThere are various ways to get from the airport to the Copenhagen city centre, which is where the SteelSeries eSport Challenge is being held. Besides car rental, which is available at the airport, taxi's are located outside of the airport (just follow the signs) and will cost you approximately €20-25 one way.
By TrainThe easiest way to get from the Copenhagen Airport to Axeltorv in the centre of Copenhagen without having to walk for 15-20 minutes is by train. From the airport, you can take the train to the station of Hovedbanegården, which is within 3 minutes of walking distance from the event. A one way ticket will cost you €4,60.
It is possible to go to the Vesterport Train Station located almost next to the event, but this is a bit pointless, considering it's just a three minute walk from Hovedbanegården to the event.
Another important thing to note is that on the location marked with an A in the picture above you will find all the busses and taxi's.
By MetroIn addition, an easy and fast way to travel to the city centre is to take the metro. The Copenhagen Airport at Kastrup is located 8 KM south of the City Centre and from the airport metro station it will take you 12-15 minutes to get to the centre of Copenhagen. One way tickets can be purchased at the metro stations and will cost around €4,60. Metro's to the city centre leave every 6 minutes.
Below you can find a map of the Danish metro, courtesy of M.dk. You can get out at two different stops, the Kongens Nytorv station and the Nørreport station, which are located fairly close to the event. From the Kongens Nytorv station it's a 18 minute walk to the Axeltorv square; from the Nørreport station it will be a 14 minute walk.
A small overview on how to get to the event by foot can be found below.

This is however something being worked on by organisations such as eSport Denmark who are in constant talks with politicians (both major parties have now said that eSport should be a recognized sport) and I think it will be a matter of a few years (fingers crossed) before the Danish government officially recognizes eSport as an actual sport.

Nice guide, hopefully it will get more peeps to attend.
good good
Well done guys. Just a shame I won't be going to this one :)
Here are a couple of places to see / things to do:
Tivoli - Copenhagen's famous amusement park in the heart of Cph and literally straight across the street from the SEC location. Rides/rollercoasters, activities and plenty of places to eat (though most of them are quite pricey).
Link: www.tivoli.dk/composite-3351.htm
Christiania - an area in Cph also known as 'Freetown Christiania' and arguably the biggest tourist attraction in the entire city. "Christiania has been a source of controversy since its creation in a squatted military area in 1971. Its cannabis trade was tolerated by authorities until 2004. Since then, measures for normalising the legal status of the community have led to conflicts, and negotiations are ongoing."

Canal tour - If the weather is nice, you could also take a canal tour. Obviously a very touristy thing to do, but an enjoyable 60-minute ride if the sun is out, and a unique way to see the city and waterfront sights / sounds.

Additional stuff...
'Strøget' - The main walking street through central Cph, plenty of shops if you're looking to buy anything in particular. 2 minutes from SEC.
Movie theatres - If you have a few hours on hand, you can also pop in to one of the 5-6 movie theatres nearby, including Palads which is straight across the street from SEC, or Imperial which is within 2 minutes walking distance and is Denmarks largest theatre (best theatre if you get good seats).
Food - Pretty much every fast food restaurant you can think of is within walking distance from SEC (Burger King, McDonalds, KFC, etc.). Plenty of kebab joints (ask me if you're looking for the best one). Plenty of decent restaurants also, but I know most people are on a budget, so I wont go into details there. There is a Hard Rock Café across the street from SEC that serves a pricey but absolute killer burger - highly recommended! You wont have trouble finding something to eat.
Nightlife - There are basically bars and clubs everywhere in Copenhagen, I wont recommend any of them in particular as it's all a matter of personal preference, but some of the most popular ones are within walking distance from SEC. You need to be 18+ to get into most places.
Boomtown - www.boomtown.net (literally at the same location as SEC will be held)
