Now it´s time to properly set up CoD4.
//Notice: If you use CoD4player, skip this step
and read on at "SETTING UP VDUB".
* Go to your Call of Duty folder and find "iw3mp.exe".
* Create a shortcut , send it to your desktop/quicklaunch bar or whereever you can access it fast.
* Rename the shortcut to smth like MOVIE so you can identify it.
What we are going to do now is simply modify the shortcut so the game will start in the mod we want it to. So right-click on the shortcut and choose properties. A new window with some tabs will open. Select the "shortcut" tab and find a field called "Target" It should say something like this by default: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4\iw3mp.exe". We will now tell the game to load the mod we want and also execute our movie cfg (assumed u placed it in main).
After we are done it should look somewhat like this: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4\iw3mp.exe" +set fs_game mods/yourmodname +exec movie.cfg where "yourmodname" stands for the modfolder you´re working with. It´s important here to place all parameters AFTER the " (quotation marks) Otherwise it won´t work.
Or just delete the quotation marks from the target, also works:
C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4\iw3mp.exe +set fs_game mods/modname +exec movie.cfg
Alright we are basically set for recording , but we still need to set up VirtualDub but that will be a piece of cake :)
If you have any questions feel free to pm me or even better ask in the forum so other people who might have the same problems/questions can see it, too ;)
Hey when I get to the part where you have to do (/demo shot1) it doesn't load up, I did download my friend's demos and it still doesn't work. Please answer back ASAP
How about movie configs? I'm not expert on all the color editing commands etc and imo the default cod4 'pretty' config isn't that nice.
It actually is. Put all your settings on high and play on an unmodded server. You will notice a quite big difference.
It´s promod turning all the stuff off.
If you read the tutorial to the end, u will notice that I mention that i did not want to dig deeper into the cfg stuff here as it would probably have gotten too long. There are some proper movie configs (right here on tek9!) and in the tutorial it´s even said how to use them.
I got several pm´s regarding recording audio. I will probably update this tutorial later today, will post here once updated
didnt pm u but I was just about to say that myself.
as a vista user I can never figure out how to record audio seen as I have no stereo mix
but it works by using fraps which is quite odd!

If it´s working in programs but you can´t find it in vista it´s just a matter of setting it up right. Vista is a bit tricky in this case, don´t know why they changed it.
Try going to audio options. (click the speaker on the taskbar or browse to control panel -> sound)
Once there, go to the recording tab and rightclick into the device window. Check "show disabled devices".
Your stereo mix option should now show up.

Well if it works in fraps it has to be accessible by other programs , too.
I just wanted to point out that i made a big typo in the Q&A section which made the explaination look so wrong! In the 2nd Answer it says "4 frames per second" which is wrong of course :D What i meant to say was "4 samples per frame" ;)
Not that u start flaming wtf are u talkin about etc :D thanks to posey for updating the article! (K)
i ve got a problem,, when i drag the clip to vegas,, the clip is slower then the ingame snd,, and both have normal spd when recording
Please use an avidemo value that divides through 1000 without a remainder (f.e: 50 100 200 250 500) and also through your final fps number. (i.e don´t use avidemo 234 or so)
If you use another value you will have to speed up the clip.
right-click the clip, choose properties and enter 1,041 as playback speed
This mostly applies for 30 fps movies. As you can see my tutorial aims for 50 fps and if you follow it correctly you won´t run into this issue.
tnx 4 help :) i did it @ avidmeo 60 lolol since my cpu is shit
If you wonder why there´s nothing about compression, this will be posted here soon (I´ll wait another few days for another person to finish it, else I will do it and attach it to this tutorial, will post then)
This tutorial is ONLY about getting your footage out of your game and into your editor. Nothing about final render settings here ;)
here's a tut www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_fShXldMiM
