Insomnia44: VYE After-Match Interview - Interview

I managed to sit down with up-and-coming UK team VYE after their crushing defeat against Phanmix. What could have been a close game just went the wrong way seeing Phan advance into the following upper bracket round with VYE going down to the lower.

You can find an interview delving into their thoughts and opinions on the game below:

Hey chaps. We saw you come out of the previous round with a comfortable victory, but now you’ve had to go against 4th seed Phanmix. What range of emotions were you guys feeling going into the game?

Range of emotions? Mm. We were happy to play the mix rather than the top three teams; it made us feel more confident as we knew they should be the weaker side. Although saying this, it can sometimes be worse due to the random nature of a mix team.

We saw you lose the vital side deciding knife, seeing you enter mp_citystreets on the offensive side. To most this is a disadvantage and it definitely seemed to be when you suddenly found yourselves on a 5-0 score line. You must have been panicking at this stage of the game?

Yea. We thought we were going to do a TCM and lose 12-0. Their nades and flashes were ridiculous and we just didn’t know how to handle it. After this we started to adapt…

It was then though that you seemingly flicked that magic switch, managing to take two rounds in quick succession. What was it that allowed this change of momentum? Was it a change of pace or something deeper and intellectual?

I think we simply just adapted to the nades and flashes, allowing us to advance upon the sites and get the explosives down. We actually started to talk more, before we were a bit quiet, it just took us a few rounds to find our feet.

You managed to go from a 5 round disadvantage to a final 4-8 score line at the end of the first half. How did affect your mental attitude towards the match?

We were definitely more confident, perhaps too confident...We were just pushing out, not sitting in and defending the bombs, we just seemed to frag hunt at times and vae’s nades we’re just ridiculous.

You seemed to continue to struggle when the roles we’re reversed, quickly finding yourselves losing two rounds in quick succession. What was it about the phanmix offensive that proved to be so elusive?

Their distinct style of play was so effective. It was just their nades, their nades were just disgusting. Lighters in particular was so annoying. Apart the nades we just didn’t think enough, pushing and generally being overly confident.

What was going through your minds when you were on the brink of defeat? The game had the potential to be so close and to end on such a stunning score line must have been disappointing.

We were slightly disappointed, we still have the lower bracket to progress through and hopefully we can go far in there. We just heard though that Check your drivers just overcame TCM (more to come on that later) so we might be up against them later which would be unfortunately.

Lighters seemed to be a thorn in your side throughout the game, nearly stopping you from claiming your 7th round of the game. What was it about his play style that seemed to be so effective?

Erm, James answer this one please you had the most experience with this one. James: He was just ridiculous wasn’t he, I can’t be arsed. Obviously his experience in top teams benefitted him and that was shown throughout the day.

We saw robonz take down mike in a one versus one situation, how did this effect you mentally, to be so close to bringing the score back just to get taken down at the brink of success.

Gutted. That pretty much sums it up, it could have been the momentum we needed but it just wasn’t meant to be.

Anyway guys, I’ll wish you luck for the duration of the competition. Any shout outs or last comments?

Thanks to our sponsors Spire, Initial Games, Visualize Media and Immortal Servers, and off course our sick manager RCN and off course sound.
