Insomnia44: Phantasmix After-Final Interview - Interview

With you guys being a mix few people expected you to come so far, being pegged the Dark Horse it was always a possibility but few would have guessed. How does it feel to exceed expectations and to come so far in the competition?

Great. We feel really good about it and we couldn’t have been happier (unless we won) and we beat two of the top 5 teams in Europe. So ye, we are really happy about it.

Targeted towards you this time Gizzor, how does it feel to be back even if it is only for this one weekend?

Pretty good, especially with this mix team as we are good mates. (Vae: He played better than Blackmane). I’m just going to say I’m not coming back, but ye it’s been fun.

We saw you pick up the first two rounds, how did effect your confidence going into what is undoubtedly the biggest game of the weekend?

Erm. We just beat Dignitas on mp_crossfire and they were really strong on it. We know we lost to TCM on it the day before but we felt they were really lucky on that map. We just felt like we improved on mp_crossfire and it became one of our strongest maps, and our first two rounds justified that.

We saw you gain an early lead, only for Froster to take what was the first of three rounds in a two vs one situation. What went wrong at this point in the game?

We are just a mix so sometimes we will slip up (it was all Gizzors fault – it all went ok though when he remembered how to wall bang the bomb site). But overall we played well, better than most mix teams have ever done.

At the end of the half you were on three frags much like your counterpart Germaine. Obviously this is a team game but what was going to so wrong for you on a personal level?

I was the bomb planter so I had the lesser role, so I had an excuse. I was the sacrifice and I was happy to take the plunge. In the end it worked out ok so I can’t have been that bad (vae: not as bad as Germaine who just played bad).

You soon found yourselves on the brink of match point with TCM trailing behind by quite some distance. Were you overjoyed about your situation or were you still apprehensive about what was still to come?

They were still quite keen still but we were equally confident. We knew that strike or city were quite team based and well, we’re not a team and we’ve only played those maps once and they didn’t go so well.

We saw you on the offensive early on having little success against TCM. What were they doing to counter you oh so easily?

Nades. Stop nades.  And more stop nades. The sniper pushes were a pain and they pushed the flank well. Basically they utilized the map excellently and were constantly in your face and since we were a mix we couldn’t anti-strat it too easily.

We saw you pick up your first round after your 4th consecutive loss, what did you do to achieve success?

We just calmed down and focused (vae: I’m sure I got three frags that round) and we seemed to counteract their defence. After that we managed to spot some weaknesses and started to pull it back.

You must have been bruised, demoralized and worn after the first half. How did you manage to keep up the motivation to persist into the next half?

We just tried to keep our heads up, stay focused and communicate clearly with each other. What more could we do.

It reached match point, the score line was 12-4 and you were yet to win a round on defense. What went wrong after such a promising start to the final?

They had the team advantage and were well co-ordinated and knew what they were doing. They built up a rhythm and we felt like they chose the map so they could play to our weaknesses.

An unlucky final result, have you got anything else you would like to share?

It was a really great event and we were really happy for the second place and let the good times commence. Shout out to all our sponsors, Shifty, Shifty and who else but Shifty. Shout out to Leo for getting up early to cheer us on.
