With less than twenty four hours remaining until the launch of one of the biggest events of 2012 the anticipation levels are rising. Over the course of the four day event we will see over twenty teams from across Europe flock to battle it out for the possible £2,500 prize pot as well as bundles of hardware. Epic.
The epic.LAN series has been running since early 2008, run and organized not by men in suits, but instead by a group of passionate and dedicated gamers who have aimed to run a non-profit event in the heart of the United Kingdom. Since its creation it has steadily grown in numbers developing a cult following until finally branching into the competitive market. Having successfully supported the UK Counter Strike: Source scene for over a year, the event continued to develop looking for other opportunities. After a number of failed ventures such as Team Fortress 2 the organizing team finally settled upon Call of Duty 4 which got off to a rocky start at epic.SEVEN.
The previous event, only attracting four teams due to lack of community interest was, despite its small numbers, a roaring success. I know what you're saying at this point though, how can a four team event be so successful? How could it possibly have been the catalyst for the nearly sold out CoD4 tournament in just a few hours’ time? Well let me tell you, not a single player left the event with a serious complaint, the tournaments were flexible, the on-site facilities and catering were excellent and affordable, and the staff were friendly and actually wanted to hear your opinion on how to improve.
But that’s enough of the past, at 12:00GMT on Friday 17th February the group stages will commence and some of the best within the LAN attending scene as well as some local talent will be battling it out to claim the number 1 UK spot. Who can take the glory? Could it be Finnish side of Team ESPC? What about the recently underperforming side of TCM? Head on over to the next page and I'll give you my personal predictions...
