page 3: Team Dignitas

About 8 months ago you got the opportunity to join one of the finest multigaming clans around, especially when it comes down to FIFA, Team Dignitas. Was it your dream to join one of these powerhouses one day ?
It was not really a dream. But since I started playing FIFA and getting into the world of eSports, I looked up to Team-Dignitas. They had great skill and went everywhere. This is what made me want to do my best, so that I could be one of them some day. Luckily for me it all went very fast.

Have you learned a lot since you joined them skill-wise, mental-wise, ... ?
I think I have grown not only as a player but also as a person. I go to almost every event by myself, which I never did before when I was playing for KnightS. The management is a lot different, and it had a positive effect on me. There is always someone to help me and they made me feel at home from the first minute I joined. I am now training with one of the best players out there, which certainly helped me to win FIWC NL and even placed well at the FIWC Grand Final.

I guess that all of the Dignitas.FIFA members have become friends by now but who is your number one of the team ? With who do you practice the most and if you had to be locked with one of them in a castle for 2 months, who would it be ?
I practised the most with IstvaN. Unfortunately we do not use ventrilo a lot because it causes lag. But I think we had a lot of things in common and that is the reason I played some more with him then with the others. Unluckily IstvaN decided to take a step back this year, so I will be playing with all the other guys more from now on. With 4 new guys in the team I have enough to choose from.

You also said that since you joined, the Dignitas’ management has played an important role in your gaming career. Could you tell us something more about this ? Who helped you out the most and in which ways ?
The person that helped me the most is ODEE. He is very easy to talk to and wants you to be the best. Without him I would not have an Xbox360 to train on for the FIWC, he also took me into his home when I was in London. He wants to know what I am up to for an event and he even called me just before the final of NetgameZ to wish me good luck and motivated me for all events.

How important is it for you to have people on the sideline cheering for you ?
I do not need someone to be there but I do appreciate it if there is someone. It can help me to get the motivation needed to be on top of my game. Sometimes that person can help me to keep my head cool but when I am feeling down and someone is cheering me up it can give me new energy.

By coming out on top at the FIWC Qualifier in Utrecht you won a rather nice amount of cash being 2000 €. Did that change your life or career in any way because cash prices for FIFA have not been that big in the past so I figure winning the 2000 Euros for “just a qualifier” was a nice cheque to take home with you ?
It sure was nice to win that kind of money. But it hasn't changed me. I still want to win small prizes like hardware or low cash prizes. The cheque only motivated me more to do my best and win even more prizes like this.

What are your personal goals for 2007 and what are those of the entire Dignitas team ?
For me it will be qualifying for the World Cyber Games, the Samsung European Championship if they have a qualifier and I might have a go at the ESWC qualifiers for Pro Evolution 6. I will also go to the Dutch LAN events because that is something I like to do. The team its goals are to win the ESL International Pro Series and have as many players as we can at WCG and SEC.

What is your favourite goal out of all these and what is your dream ? What tournament do you dream off to win one day ?
That is by no doubt the World Cyber Games. The biggest and most prestigious tournament off all in my opinion and definitely for FIFA. Winning that would be the ultimate goal to achieve.

What are you going to play the most this year ? FIFA on your computer or on a console and it is all about FIFA 2007 now right ?
It is all about FIFA07 now yes, and since there will not be any major console tournaments it is time to focus on the PC. I am currently in the playoffs of the Clanbase Eurocup and the team started the ESL IPS with a 20:0 win already. The training for the WCG has begun for the whole team now.

What are your chances of winning this Eurocup since you have been rather lucky to be in these playoffs due to a forfeit win versus Ovvy :) ?
My chances to win are equal to 0%. I did not expect making it to the playoffs, even after my last game I thought I was out. But lucky for me I got through. I do not like the game on the PC. Much bad bugs and random play, this makes it hard to motivate myself for a match. That is the reason why I have not played as much as I normally would.

So you are saying that the game you are about to play this year is not really a nice game for you to play ? How are you going to cope with that problem ?
I will just need to prepare myself for a hard time. The chance is that certain things get banned which makes the game more playable. It is all about playing with Barcelona and shooting the ball forward to sprint out the defenders with Eto’o and Ronaldinho. I am not that kind of player so I will have to search for a better way to play.
