page 2: Personal

I always go personal right from the beginning and this time it will be no different so … do you still study and if so what are you going to school for ?
I am currently in college; it is my first year after I dropped out from another school I went to. This time I am studying Journalism in Tilburg. It is not a hard school but you have to do a lot for it in order to get somewhere.
Did you drop out of school to focus more on gaming or was this decision solely personal ?
I did not drop out of school for gaming. The college I chose was just not my thing and the results were very bad because of it. I made a wrong choice and it costed me 1 year. In that time I did spend a lot of time training though.
With a possible degree in Journalism in the bag in a couple of years, where do you see yourself at that time ?
If I finish I want to keep involved in gaming, eSports-Journalism is my goal. I also hope that I can keep my skill up in the eSports world itself. Gaming is my biggest hobby, so if I can make it my job it would be awesome.
Do you think that there is a lot to earn with eSports-Journalism these days or are you hoping that the scene will be evolving soon enough to go even deeper into it ? If your odds are made on the second part what type of Journalism would get your attention: magazine writing, online journalism, shoutcasting, … ?
I do not think that eSports-Journalism will be something to earn a living from, of course I hope it would evolve to the same level of journalism used in sports like soccer or tennis. Right now I'm more a writer then a speaker. But since I am still in first year it can still go different ways.
What would you like to do next to writing for the gaming scene to earn a living?
I want to write about games in general as well, for a magazine or newspaper. Not only for the gaming scene. The study will focus on radio, television, newspapers, etc. Who knows where I might end up ?! It is important to keep myself busy at this time, I am not thinking a lot of my future yet.
Lately you have been quite busy going from one LAN event to another. How do your parents feel about all that and how did friends and other parts of your family react on your passion for gaming.
Last couple of months have been quite busy, from London to Amsterdam etc. My parents were not so happy with it in the first place. But after having won the FIWC Dutch Final, they are kind off proud of me. After the media attention and all the other things that came with it showing all the articles and stuff to other family and people we know. Unfortunately I do not get to catch up with old friends a lot. I talk to them once in a while but that surely had to be a sacrifice for gaming.
So since your recent victory your parents support you all the way ?
If I need a ride to a LAN or to the train station I can count on my dad, they are ok with it as long as gaming does not affect my school in a negative way.
