page 3: CompLexity

When did you found complexity and what was your primary motivation to do this?
As I mentioned earlier, I founded coL in 2003 because I wanted a good team to play on.
What, in your opinion, makes complexity different and unique in comparison to other professional gaming organisations out there?
compLexity has always tried to have the very best of everything: players, staff, graphic artists, editors, etc. We pride ourselves on excellence, and work extremely hard to give our fans a fun gaming community to participate in.
How did you manage to uphold such a standard after all these years?
It’s a lifestyle and an attitude: always do your best 24/7.
Complexity being a well known and well performing professional team for quite some years now has always been playing without a lot of big names backing them up. Looking at Team3D they were sponsored by Intel, nVidia and so are other American teams but complexity did never show up with big names like that? How come because the performance and professional attitude was definitely remarkable?
There weren’t enough sponsors back then, and Team3D had both the big ones in North America. We were lucky to have loyal sponsors like Steel Series and NationVoice, and they kept us alive until CGS came along.
Without having those companies sponsoring big cash you will probably have invested a lot of personal funds into coL as well or not? How did you feel about financing all that and did it have any affect on you or your family? Did you need to work overtime to get funds for coL?
Yes, coL was very expensive and I’m still earning back my initial investment. The financial strain became quite strong when the real estate market slowed down in Atlanta, so CGS came along just in time!
Rumours indicated that you were in negotiations with different companies to back coL up just before you joined CGS. Could you tell us more about that?
Yes, we were in negotiations with a couple large corporations that would have made us one of the highest funded teams in the world, but I felt the CGS route was the way forward so we politely turned down the sponsors.

good interview
Really not that interested on the CGS as a whole though. Computer games will always be more interesting for the user. The idea of watching a console/pc game being played by some other people will always be boring in my eyes.
I find it interesting that Lake mentions that a "45" minute game is not acceptable on live television, yet people who watch SPORTS can watch 90 minutes of a game of football, 80 minutes of Rugby, 4 quarters of American Football and Basketball, including all the in-between match analysis.

He seems like a true fan of esports and the fact he carried his team on his shoulders without the big sponsors and still managed to get them to the top is amazing, great manager.
Every place you put soul and hard work will pay off, hes an example of that. |
