A dekko at Roy
Roy with his nephew and niece (2008)
Let’s skip the usual introduction. You have three words to introduce yourself to our readers. Go ahead, but weigh your words wisely.
Direct, honest and lazy.
Are you a breakfast-skipper by waking up late due to a long game night?
It happens every now and then; simply because I consider it unhealthy. Nowadays, when it’s vacation it happens occasionally but when the vacation is over, I will never do this.
Have you ever done sports?
As a kid, I have done loads of different sports; like judo, tennis and hockey - when I was a really young kid. When I got a bit older, I also practiced a lot of handball.
Since a few years, I go to the gym regularly. I used to jog after or before the gym but I stopped due to various reasons. Now, I’m planning to start again. Sports are really important to me and I think this should be for everyone. You feel a lot better in your daily life when you posses a good condition. I think it’s a shame that a lot of people don’t try to make time to practice a sport; and generally just prefer being lazy.
Let’s go off topic with the previous question. In the sports branch, a lot of ink has been flowed about sex before games. What do you think about that? Does it influence your preparation – good or bad?
Sex is very good for our blood circulation, so I think that having sex is good: whenever and anywhere. Only when you have to play important games it’s wise to get a blowjob or quickie instead of participating in a heavy and long interaction, because then it might wear you out too much, and that will certainly influence your concentration in-game.
Roy, the marine
A while ago, you practiced a lot in the gym to make a chance on passing the exams for the marine. Are you still striving to become a Marine or have your goals been changed? Where do you see yourself in the future?
A few years ago, I had to desire and wish to join the Marine Corps in The Netherlands – not the fleet, tho. When I failed for these tests, I decided to put away my plans because I was standing for a crucial choice. I could train more and join the Marine Corps six months later and study while being in the Corps, or just study like everyone does and work my way up to get a decent job in the end. I chose the last option because the Marine Corps is a very heavy unit of the Dutch army; and I wasn’t too sure if I could manage that; working on my condition whilst studying.
Without a shadow of doubt, I still love to join them at any time, but time isn’t on my side when it comes to this topic. Like I said before, I have to make my decisions about my future now and choose them wisely. I wasn’t the sensible kid and teenager, so I messed up a lot of my education so that means that right now I’ve to make up for the troublesome period I went through.
Oh, that’s history so as long as I get a good degree and a decent job where I feel myself comfortably, that’s all that matters to me in the end.
Let’s deep into one bad thing you were guilty of. What had you done and what was the punishment you received.
I don’t want to go into detail. There were a few years in my life where I smoke weed all day long; and broke stuff on a rather bored night. Let’s just say most of the bad things were rather innocent.
What was the turning point for you? When did you realize that you weren’t walking on the path of the righteous man – forgive my Pulp Fiction-quote?
It all goes back to when I hung out with some friends. At a certain moment, they wanted to do more serious bad things; things I didn’t appreciate. I got – a bit – involved and arrested but they released me after two days because I had nothing to do with it. The reason I got arrested was because it were friends of mine and I was with them during the time it happened.
"When I came back from the police office, I realized that I was taking the wrong path."
When I came back from the police office, I realized that it wasn’t the direction I wanted to walk. I had no problems with the rather innocent things but I disliked the criminal path; and therefore I decided to stop seeing these friends. Nowadays, I just go out with friends with a certain responsibility.
Now, let’s leave the valley of darkness and head over to your first step in the World of CS.
