Could you tell me a bit about the history of your team?
All of us have a little background from the vCOD, all of us have played a lot together from the beginning and we formed a call of duty squad for the infamous Icelandic counter-strike teams like seven and icegaming. Then COD2 was released and we decided to part ways with icegaming and that’s when dedication came in the game. We had a good start at the beginning of COD2 and today we are always aiming for higher goals.
Our team is based on; myztic - j1h - chbZy - tAefun - drezi - sMuffy.
Our dream is to take part in a foreign LAN event one day, but it can be very frustrating and expensive for us to travel from our small cool island :)
How competitive is the cod2 community in Iceland? Any Online competitions or LANs?
The competition is weak in the Icelandic COD2 community, we are still unbeaten by the Icelandic teams (officially), We in dedication have hosted few Icelandic cups and daycups, and there haven’t been many cups lately it was more when they game was brand new, but there is a upcoming LAN quite soon, at first it was only supposed to be a Counter-Strike Cup but many Icelandic COD2 players protested against the idea so they added COD2 which is great, it helps the Icelandic COD2 community to grow (its still growing day by day!)
Back in vCOD we use to attend to this LAN which was held quite regularly, it was a LAN where vCOD, CS , BF , Quake and other gamers use to attend to. The LAN was sponsored by the biggest Internet and phone company in Iceland. But one day the company stopped supporting the LAN so we haven’t seen a COD2 LAN for a while.
How big is the cod2 community in Iceland? Are there any other clans besides you?
Its really hard to tell how big the community is the clans which I have most noticed is ecco , team5 , Adios , Limit , MSI.cod , oasis , adore and i cant remember more I’m afraid. But there are a lot of clanless Icelandic COD2 players and ive noticed many Counter-strike players are getting bored of CS and purchased COD2, which is awesome because COD2 is a fresh game, and Call of duty 2 is a game which can live a lot longer than vCOD did. SO IF ANY ICELANDIC GAMER IS READING THIS NOW AND YOU HAVENT TRIED COD2, ITS YOUR LOSS BABY!
Is it easy for you to get support from Organizations from your country?
Getting support from Icelandic Organizations is not the easiest thing no, but the support I’ve seen so far is computer hardware shops and there is this one shop which has supported us with prizes in cups (which we have hosted), and it supports few counter-strike teams, and its doing good things for the Icelandic gamers, if its dealing with hardware or prizes for cups. Call of duty hasn’t been big enough for that kind of thing, but now it sure is! I would like to thank this shop for all the gamers in Iceland, thank you kísildalur (www.kisildalur.is). But this is such a small support comparing to how many icelandic gamers exist, the sponsorship which I want to see in the nearest future is a support to transport the gamers to other countries. I think if we could get a sponsor ship to foreign LANS we could show the other teams what we are made of like, the infamous counter-strike team seven did on the WSVG 2006 London were they fought like vikings and ended in 4th place.
Now I think it’s time for COD2 teams like dedication to show the other opponents what we are made of, because usually we have ping problems when we are playing our matches, so if our ping was as same as the enemy we could do quite better. And like I said before we really are excited, thinking about the idea of us packing our things and attending to some LAN party. Maybe the idea is just to join up some multi-gaming organization which has sponsors to help us but right now we are just focusing on finishing our goals and play better.
Do you think you have equal chances as countries like the UK, Finland etc.. to practice and become better?
Well if we practice hard and get lucky about the ping problem and play with good ping, we sure can stand in others way. But about Icelandic COD2 in Nations cup, we have never seen any interest in that because there aren’t many stable players yet in Iceland to form a quality team against other countries.
We tried to play in Nations Cup in vCOD and it was ok at the beginning because many players were on the same level back then, but now the community needs to practice a lot more, build up the team spirit and then we would have few players that could fit just right in the Team-Iceland.cod2. I would also like to point out that there are 2 - 4 Icelandic COD2 teams in Open cup and there has never been so many Icelandic COD2 clans signed up for the cup ever before.
