page 10: Maniacii Lypy

Maniacii
Could you tell me a bit about the history of your team? Hello, my name is Alin "Lypy" Vartic, I'm 31 years old, I live in Bucharest, Romania, and in my spare time I am the clan leader of Maniacii. We started out with MoH Spearhead 4 years ago, game which we've played until CoD2 came out.
We're a numerous clan with members ranging from 14 to 43 years, and, besides the fun, we also try to play competitively, a pretty hard thing to do considering the gaming level in Romania. Our clan is active in Clanbase, EDOM and ESL. You can find details about us on our website, www.maniacii.ro.
How competitive is the cod2 community in Romania? Any Online competitions or LANs?
Despite the fact that you cannot compare the Romanian CoD2 scene with any other western European country, CoD2 did bring many new players to the WW2 FPS world even in Romania, in comparison to other older games, like MOH, CoD1 or CoD:UO. Of course, the main advantage now is the better internet connections, which used to be a serious problem here 1-2 years ago.
On a local plan, we managed to organize 3 editions Online competitions under the name "Blitzkrieg", and, as the time passed, not only the number of the participants grew, but also their skill level. In the first edition there were 14 teams playing, while in the last one, no less then 23 Romanian teams participated in the tournament. You can find details about it on our website.
Also online, we've begun to work with ESL (http://www.esl.eu/ro/cod2/opening/) to organize various competitions for Romanian teams, which, we hope, will lead to a growth in our CoD2 community. As far as LAN's are concerned, the facts aren't that good - until now only two LAN's were organized by ArcH Furious clan, last year. This summer we'll try to work out a third one, somewhere around August.
How big is the cod2 community in Romania? Are there any other clans besides you?
As I've said above, even though there's no comparison between Romania and other countries, our community is constantly (even if slowly) growing. Except Maniacii, in Romania there are some other known clans, like, for example Arhanghelii ("the Archangels"), a team with a long tradition, coming from CoD1, which are also one of the best CoD2 clans in Romania. Another good team is ArchFurious, coming as well from CoD1, which now tries to achieve performance in Romania and in Europe, and in this spirit recruited several "outsiders" from Netherlands, Sweden and other countries. A6 (anarchy 666) is another old clan from UO, now with a young squad at CoD2, as is "Morometii".
Newer teams include "Czone", which also recruited some German players to strengthen their squad, and other noteworthy mentions would be AceOfSpades, RetireD, Oseni, RomLegion or Clevers :)
Is it easy for you to get support from Organizations from your country?
For the moment it's pretty hard. As stated above, currently the gaming in Romania is seriously lagging behind compared to other countries, not only because we have fewer players, but also because most of them play games for fun, rather than professionally. Another problem is the lack of organizations willing to get involved, but now, with this collaboration with the ESL, we hope to attract some interest and thus evolve as a whole - better online play, organization, more LAN contests.
Do you think you have equal chances as countries like the UK , Finland etc.. to practice and become better?
We have theoretically chances against whatever country, because no one can hinder us from training and playing professionally. However, looking at the straight facts, it's hard to get performance from a community that has 10-20 clans, compared to other countries like UK, NL, DE... where hundreds of teams play :). Despite these negative aspects, we hope that in some years we'll have teams that can fight equally with the western European clans. Like we've seen Czech or Hungarian teams show up.
