Our favourite German team are back in the headlines again with this article which focuses on their past, present performance and future preperance for next years LAN’s and events. Introducing today’s team straight from the SPEED-LINK barracks includes:

SPEED-LINK.Fuchsstute: A great captain being at the brink of his job of leading his team through the top stages in the Call of Duty 2 scene. Fuchsstute is the longest standing member in the team through-out the Call of Duty 1 OCRANA.ATI days still leading the gaming lifestyle today, Fuchsstute is always happy to be apart of the team and is always smiling through thick and thin.

SPEED-LINK.Nightwalker: This slick guy has been a leading power-house of an individual through his days in SPEED-LINK and still shows us today he is still one of the best German players around varying his playing style with a mix of mg, sniper and shotgun, working around on the maps of course.

SPEED-LINK.phY1: phY1 is the leading sniper in the team, even though he doesn’t take it all the time on every map phY1 is very talented from what we have seen with the scope. phY1 is also one of the longest serving members in the team also coming from Call of Duty 1.

SPEED-LINK.L-KiNG: The latest addition to the squad after being recruited when member kAZAAAa was to go in-active due to university work taking over. L-KiNG has proved to be a great fill in for the team and fits the team nicely with some positive action on both LAN and online events. This makes out to be a big contribution for the team and we couldn’t imagine anyone else to take that spot.

SPEED-LINK.Trigger: Last but not least, probably Call of Duty 2’s most well known player, Michael Sowa who need no introduction when it comes to the Call of Duty 2 scene. Trigger has been a long time serving member of SPEED-LINK and also takes part in other activities on the scene which boosts his own image and SPEED-LINK’s making him a great player and person.

The SPEED-LINK team first made a name for themselves in Call of Duty 1 (known then as OCRANA.ATI) with their strong line-up over-powering the biggest teams such as WHO-Crew. The team had a slightly different line-up back then going on to win the Clanbase EuroCup X and placing second for EuroCup XI.

Call of Duty 2 came and in the early months of 2006 OCRANA.ATI Call of Duty 2 team moved over to newly found SPEED-LINK heading new sponsors and support to offer more confidence and moral to the team. The SPEED-LINK crew went on to win Netgamez 2006A and to beat CheckSix in the EuroCup XII Finals to be known as the unstoppable and greatest team of Call of Duty 2 at the time.
The team also went onto win further events such as the TeK-9 Outpost on Fire event hosted in Belgium and the ESL Opening Cup. At this moment SPEED-LINK had the perfect LAN win streak in Call of Duty 2 and had not lost many matches online either with some of their first losses being against CheckSix in the EuroCup XIII matches.

However SPEED-LINK qualified for the EuroCup XIII LAN Finals and would go onto face Dignitas, TeK-9 and CheckSix in Denmark that September. A surprise was lurking around the corner though, as the team attended the Crossfire LAN weeks before the EuroCup Finals and the new line-up of Dignitas took a shock spring to defeat SPEED-LINK narrowly in the Crossfire Finals.

During a period before this, player kAZAAAa was to go in-active due to university taking over for a while, Fuchsstute would have to look long and hard for a new player to take over and be just as good of a replacement. This actually didn’t take so long for the team as L-KiNG, fresh from the old CheckSix team joined the ranks of SPEED-LINK to fill the line-up once again.

We are not sure if this was to knock their confidence completely but the team went onto placing fourth in the EuroCup XIII Finals and placing third place at the recently held Milk LAN in Paris. L-KiNG has shown he is worthy of being SPEED-LINK material doing very well for the team through the various events.

Although their recent losses on LAN were to affect their perfect list of greens, SPEED-LINK are still one of the best clans on the Call of Duty 2 scene today. With their number 1 spot in the Clanbase Europe ladder with 41 wins and 1 draw recently defeating inteRaction (21:19) for the number 1 rank, many people still back up the Call of Duty 2 team as being the best around. But who wouldn’t? They have a perfect team including some of Europe’s best players and some great team work, but the question is how did these losses come about with the current all star German line-up they have?

Maybe a spot of bad luck or the fact some of the recent LAN’s they have attended include constant on going matches, some leading through all night tiring the team as it does others?

Going onto 2007 I would probably give SPEED-LINK the number 1 spot of the greatest Call of Duty 2 team of 2006. Their performance has been great and they have given us a lot of surprises through-out the year. The question now is, will they pick their old performance of LAN matches back up?
We do hope so as I’m sure we would all like to see SPEED-LINK back in full throttle in the future. With the Clanbase and ESL wins to losses ratio I’m sure each member of the team is proud to represent one of Europe’s best known and skilled line-ups. With the upcoming EuroCup XIV tournament hosted by Clanbase, SPEED-LINK have been invited to play and we sure wish them the best of luck with that!

I have caught up with some of the SPEED-LINK guys recently including Fuchsstute, Trigger and Nightwalker to get their view on the team over the past few months and for the future.

SPEED-LINK.Nightwalker

Myself and Nightwalker had a small discussion reviewing the situations and things in the past of the SPEED-LINK team.

sCARFACEEe: When SPEED-LINK lost the Crossfire LAN Final versus Dignitas, how was the confidence in the team in the weeks leading to the EuroCup XIII LAN Finals?
Nightwalker:
After being defeated for the first time after a lot of successful months it was difficult to handle that situation. But in the flash back we recognize that it was a really close match, were not the better team but the team with the tick more luck won. We did not change our practice for the EuroCup LAN Finals due to the second place at the

Crossfire LAN Event.

sCARFACEEe: Did you ever feel your practice for online matches such as ClanBase and ESL affected your practice for LAN matches?

Nightwalker: Official wars are more interesting than always playing pcw's so we decide to reach the first place in ladder systems like Clanbase 5on5 SD EU ladder and the ESL 5on5 SD ladder. I do not think that this affect our LAN performances.

sCARFACEEe: In your recent ClanBase EU match, you took number 1 spot from inteRaction, at any time before the match did you feel your chances of losing might be the same as theirs?

Nightwalker: The match against inteRaction was a really close match. All of us expected their strength on Burgundy so it was very important for us to get as many rounds as possible on Matmata. Fortunately we started with Matmata and won that map (13:07). But like expected they came back into the match and the last round gave us the win. I have to admit that we did not know what to do as Allies on Burgundy and at that point it was possible to lose the match.

SPEED-LINK.TriggerI talked to Trigger briefly about the overview of the practice in the team, he gave some information and his views on the teams training.

sCARFACEEe: SPEED-LINK seem to be a very tight bunch when it comes to knowing your team mates, if there is any disagreement during practice does this affect the atmosphere and the match you are practicing for?

Trigger: Well like in every team we have discussions about situations and also misunderstandings. But we try to figure out that stuff after the match so we can concentrate on the game. If we have some trouble before the game, maybe even flaming each other a bit, then this surely affects our gaming in the next match. But I can say it’s not happening that often and I’m kind of glad it is going this way.

sCARFACEEe: You guys have a lot of tac nades for matches as we have seen in demo's, do you feel the nades are a big contribute to the match as far as fragging is concerned?

Trigger:
We started in CoD2 with a lot of nades, especially on maps like Dawnville we had a lot and could outplay our opponents this way. At the moment we play a bit more without nades, but as it seems it doesn’t work out that good. I think its really an advantage if u combine your game play with nades, because even if u don’t kill the people with it, it shows them that your prepared and they maybe won’t go to the position anymore, which effects their game play, so its really helpful to have a lot of nades.

sCARFACEEe: Being an all German line-up and only having a strict 5 man line-up, do you think this is a bonus in practice and matches with things like communication than having a different nationality team member?

Trigger: Yes sure. An all German line-up is the way to go for us and we could never get someone outside Germany in the team. We like to joke through the whole game and have fun with different trash talk while playing. If you’re not German, it’s kind of hard to understand them and also the communication in game into some situation will be really hard. The thing with 5 Players only can be a good point for us, but also a bad one. It’s helping to figure out your tactics and get team play with those players. But if the players are not all are available at one day, you can cancel the training overall which is kind of sad then. But overall a 5 man line-up is absolutely the best way for us and we discussed it also a long time and decided to stay like it is right now.

SPEED-LINK.Fuchsstute

I had a chance to catch up with Fuchsstute briefly for a chat to talk about the future of SPEED-LINK.

sCARFACEEe: Are you and your team-mates focusing on next years LAN events now with more practice and team effort?

Fuchsstute:
I do not think that is possible for us to have more practice than in the past. Meanwhile it is not important to practice as much as possible. The kind of practice is the key for the win. At the moment we try to implement this strategy.

sCARFACEEe: Do you feel your winning reign you had before for LAN matches will come back to you guys again?

Fuchsstute: No team can dominate the whole scene, so it was no wonder that the time came where we lose our position at the sun. In the past there were a lot of really good teams but they weren't that good to beat us. But now the best players of these teams can join together in a new team and now for them it is possible. I think that it is a normal circuit but I do not want to put up with it. We will give our best to get our number 1 spot back!

sCARFACEEe: What are the number 1 area's you are now focusing on in things like practice and matches to improve the team for the future?

Fuchsstute: Our main targets have not changed. We want to win some LAN events and also win many matches both online and offline. Here and there will be some interesting tournaments like the CTF OpenCup where we will play to have some fun.  For the future we would like to wish SPEED-LINK the best of luck for the upcoming 2007 events, and also thank you to the members that have taken their time out to answer questions given!
