page 5: The arrival of the Poles

The famous five sporting their former team's colours
Recently MYM has been in the press a lot due to your recent acquisition of the infamous Counter Strike team formerly of PGS. How have the Polish five settled in so far?
Pretty well, I hang out on their IRC channel and have them all on my msn and we talk about this and that. My impression is that they like being with us and that they seem to think only of their game and performance, which is what they should and then let the management behind them assure the best facilities and handle all the boring work. Players play better when they know for a fact that their hotels are booked, flights arranged and that what was said shipped is actually shipped and so on. It is not their job to think about all those things, it’s the job of the manager of the team and the management behind him/her.
With the recent loss to SoA in the Extreme Master’s League, many claim that the “MeetYourMakers Effect”, which states that however good the players are in the team, they always seem to under-perform in the organisation, has struck the team. Are you or any of the management worried about the recent form of the team? Is there any pressure from either your sponsors or the investors of Regroup for a team to perform?
Sorry but who ever believe in such a thing, call it curse or whatever needs to be mentally examined. The CS guys, the new ones, are known for not performing to well online due to their pretty poor internet connections in Poland, so I take that with a smile and having seen them on LAN more than a couple of times, then I also know how their play style differs from online to offline and that’s it’s a ying to a yang to see them play LAN instead of online. But in terms of the SoA match specifically I won’t take away the credit from the Danish team as they were the better ones that night, despite the ping, but I am sure if they would meet on LAN a week later the outcome would have been different.
And no, there is no more pressure than it would be for any other team in MYM. When you sign a contract with us you are bound to be able to perform and deliver results, if not, then you are of course history at some point. Professionals work best with professionals, that’s just how it is and that is why some players and teams aren’t meant to sign with organizations like MYM, we simply demand to much from them to be able to deliver. But on the other hand we take good care of our athletes and the stars are paid as stars should be and they know which conditions they have while under contract with us, which also means perform or find another job.
Before the move you claimed that you would be adding a Call of Duty 4 team to the organisation, following on from other top organisations who took a keen interest in the new game. Of course the chance to get one of the best Counter Strike teams in the world was too good to pass up but are you still considering adding a CoD4 team at a later date?
I am pretty sure a bunch of people are going to be more than annoyed over this, especially the COD4 community, but I only did it to be a nuisance or call it a nail in the shoe for 4kings and their announcement with the COD4 team. Now feel free to yell at me :).
With that said, then _we might_ open up a COD4 division, nothing has been decided yet though, but if we are going to, then we are only aiming at the best team or number two worldranking-wise, not 3rd or 4th and without knowing who that actually is. So let us all sit back and see what we can come up with over the next few weeks :)
In a recent interview, LoordB highlighted some of the shortcomings of their former organisation PGS, such as not being able to attend events due to lack of funds. Are you confident that you will not repeat PGS’s mistakes and keep them happy?
We never let any of our professional gamers or teams down and we aren’t starting to do so now. If you ask me, we are organisationally in a league of our own, which is also why players and teams tend to stick to us for many years. If a player and or team feel treated in a good way and feels “at home” and gets what he/she is worth, then there is no reason for him/her to change team. In terms of what PGS did and didn’t do I do not wish to comment that.

The team playing at the WCG Finals in 2006, where they beat
NiP in a thrilling finale.

great interview with a great person ;)
MYM has everything to dominate 2008 in the major disciplines, let's see how they come out of it.
PS: the pic on page 7 is from ESWC 2006 Grand Final, not 2007
