page 4: Regroup eSports

Moving onto Regroup, a company you also founded, tell us a little about what it actually does, and how it intends to expand in the future.

On the expansion part I can’t really reveal anything and I am sure you expected that answer; I ain’t giving my few competitors any freebies.
Regroup Esports is all about serious fun

You have some pretty large corporate names behind you, for example ABN Amro, was it you personally that gained venture for the company when first starting it up?

I was in on making the presentations and giving the speeches and lectures at the venture summits and countless meetings with potential venture and investment companies, but fare from the one that pulled it in, but my industry knowledge and power of suggestion within eSports was a matrix that was needed, the rest and the heavy work was made by our board members that come from heavy companies as the one you mentioned earlier.

Would it be safe to say that with the backing of Regroup you are one of, if not the wealthiest organisations in esports today?

Regroup Esports, if you ask me, is surely an industry leader on many fields, but if your question for me is on the MYM part, then we are surely the wealthiest organizations within eSports today and that isn’t exactly a secret anymore. But by being that, it doesn’t mean that we can and will throw money out of the window at anytime, this isn’t any gift shop and there needs to be a ROI to everything. But if there is then we are also willing to pay the cost for it.

How exactly does it create revenue, solely through advertising from your various websites or by other means?

It is done via advertisement and media sales, sponsors, endorsement deals, merchandise, surveys, micro payments and much more. We have pretty high traffic figures for our network, so the majority income is generated from there.

Do you sometimes have a conflict of interests working for both regroup and MYM? For example if there was something that required significant capital that would benefit the organisation specifically but may not return the capital to the investors of regroup, where would you allegiances lie?

Actually no, as MYM is our main marketing channel for the rest of the network, so something always benefits something in one way or the other. The main “burden” for MYM is though the salaries and they are from time to time up for debate, especially for the non esports knowledgeable part of our management team and board of directors, as it can seem odd to may that and that to a team and or player, when the ROI on that is 6-12 months ahead and sometimes never, but that is more on our shoulders how good we are at seeing rising stars, contracting them and making the right deals.

MYM has everything to dominate 2008 in the major disciplines, let's see how they come out of it.

PS: the pic on page 7 is from ESWC 2006 Grand Final, not 2007
