page 6: Korean dominance

The korean players signing their new contracts for 2007 with MYM.
It is a well documented rumour that MYM]Moon is the best paid WC3 player on the planet. Have you ever had any of your other WC3 stars feeling that they should be receiving as much as him?
Our WC3 stars are all very well paid and by well I do mean well paid, we are not a 100$ salary team. But of course Moon is a calibre of his own, just like Sky and Grubby and these kind of players are bound to be treated as such, unless they don’t know any better and want to be treated as they are and they are happy with that.
Have you discussed the future of your WC3 team with the players when Starcraft II is released? Do all the players intend to make the transition over?
SC2 is far from being a game on the market, so we will enter a dialogue with them when the time is right and that is not around the corner for now. Personally I do not believe that any of them are going SC2 when it comes out immediately, it takes a while for a game to become settled in pro esports, even when it’s a Blizzard game, but after a time I am sure most of them will convert if all go as planned for SC2. So we are waiting to see how things are developing.
How much effort goes into marketing your more well known players such as Moon in the media? Is it something the management actively pursues or do you leave it to players? Is it on the organisation’s agenda to turn your players into household names?
All marketing rights for any player and or team is held by the organization, so we take care of it. Best newer example is the Lenovo campaign with Moon in China, where he was hired to endorse a Lenovo Gaming Laptop campaign. But we do a lot of deals with our teams and players, both for sponsors, but also for companies that simply want to use our players to endorse their products. One thing we are very strict with is though that no player in MYM will ever endorse a product he doesn’t like, then we rather turn down the offer and find another one, as the players integrity is very important, especially when it’s the name of star players like Moon. But typically we don’t get offers from low-budget manufacturers as they back out when they see our pricelists for these kinds of deals.

great interview with a great person ;)
MYM has everything to dominate 2008 in the major disciplines, let's see how they come out of it.
PS: the pic on page 7 is from ESWC 2006 Grand Final, not 2007
