page 7: 2007: A year in review

Looking back on 2007, are there any specific tournament wins that stuck in your mind as being particularly special?

Not really, I mean yes there were a lot, but to me it is actually more about the prestige in winning certain events, than it’s the prize money, so the 1st place at the NGL for our WC3 team and the 1st place for the DotA guys at Dreamhack Winter 2007 (Their 3rd 1st place at DH in a row) they meant a lot to me and these events are surely not the most well paid ones.

In your opinion which Tournament Organiser hosted the best event of the year? Are there any issues that you would like to see fixed that many organisers get frequently wrong?

The best “amateur event” (LAN) was surely Dreamhack Winter 2007, what an event; I am pretty amazed how they pulled that off.

The best “professional event” in my opinion was ESWC, the other organizers are miles behind these guys.

And while we are at it, then I must say that WCG 2007 Finals in Seattle was more than a disaster, they have a lot of reputation to restore and a lot or organizational things they need corrected.

The ESWC Grand Finals in 2006

What did you think about the inaugural season of the Championship Gaming Series? Do you see it as a step forward for esports or something that is dumbing it down?

I am not the one to judge whether CGS is good or not as I am not their target group, but I do think that CGS is good in the way they put eSports on the map and looking at who is behind CGS (Mr. Keith Rupert Murdoch) it automatically attracts attention and the more good attention we can get eSports, the better. I believe that 2007 was their pilot year, so let us see what happens in 2008, especially in Europe as I don’t quite see any success on that front yet.

Is there anything that you think that MeetYourMakers could have done better in 2007 which you will amend this year?

Not really, though we should have changed the CS 1.6 team out a bit before, but that was stalled due to stranded negotiations with the PGS management team, otherwise we would have had some better results on that part. So Counter-Strike 2008, watch out, we are there.

Thanks a lot for your time, any last words or greetings?

I would like to close the interview with saying that however you convinced me to do this interview is still a puzzle to me, as I 99 out of a 100 times say no to it, it takes too much time and I like to keep myself in the background and keep my private life private, but you did it hehe ;)

MYM has everything to dominate 2008 in the major disciplines, let's see how they come out of it.

PS: the pic on page 7 is from ESWC 2006 Grand Final, not 2007
