Heya Kenneth, could you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a few things about your gaming history?
Right, my name is Kenneth Aulie, I'm 18 years old, and I'm currently living in norway. My gaming history? Well, I started playing computer games when I got my own PC, about the same time I got Duke Nukem 3D, and me and my friends started lanning each weekend, which was great fun. I moved from DN 3D to DeltaForce 2, and played that for atleast 2 years approximately. I got pretty good at it, I was one of the best TDM'ers in Europe, and played for such teams as Legionares, MuzFaz, and several other clans. I stopped playing DF2 when a friend introduced me to quake 3, I fell in love with the game, everything was great about it, the gfx, the gameplay, and it just felt great playing it. I only had a 56K when playing DF2, but it got removed (Couldn't pay bills ;X) so I had to just play it when lanning with my friends. Which was cool, since there were 6 guys we played a lot of 3v3's, but after playing Q3 for a year, I got ADSL, and that's when I really started playing Q3 seriously, joined up with a clan called TSF (The selected few) and played TDM in norwegian ladders with them, even tried to play some 1on1. Managed to get a 4th spot in a huge norwegian cup, knocking out several of the best q3'ers, I also played Ra3 for the national team, and for a clan that I made called "The Corruptors" but after awhile I got sick of Quake3, and I moved over to another game; Enemy Territory -- where after playing for awhile, was selected as the norwegian national captain, and I played for clans such as Identity Gaming, Team de & Kreaturen, I also led Norway to the CBNC title. From there I moved on to CoD, again I was introduced to a game by one of my friends, and we started a local team, where everybody knew eachother and played for about 2 months, til some of us got tired of the game, me and mate (solidox) moved over to another team namely; p!mps, and played with them for a while, until I had to find a better team, since I felt the skill level in the team was to low. That's when I started to talk with some of the DIE guys (Knew some of them from ET) and after playing with them for a week or so, I joined up with DIE, We were the best team in europe at the time, winning CB Opencup (No eurocup back then) and with CPL coming up, we felt we need to change team to get to travel to CPL, and beat the yanks, so we joined up with EYEballers. Things didn't work out, and we didn't get to go. That's when I stopped playing CoD and started playing CS, but after playing CS for about 4-5 months, Mick & Lazarus contacted me asking if I was interested coming back to CoD, which was an offer to good to decline, and here I am.
Team PC Gamer, the former Team AMD Gamer, recently decided to leave their organisation. After a little while playing as Supermen the team found a new home in multi-gaming clan riZe. What is the main reason for this departure?
Well, PCGamer is a great organisation, and we had a great run under there flag, but things didn't work out, they couldn't give us what we wanted, so we felt we had to move onto other options, Supermen was one of them, but we ended up playing for riZe, I'm afraid I can't tell you the reasons for our departure, let's just say we needed more than they could offer us, and riZe could offer us what we wanted.
What are, in your opinion the benefits of this move?
They can offer us money, for travels, which in my opinion is all we really need at the moment, and the usual stuff, like a ventserver, a warserver, and whatever we might need.
Allright, let’s go back a while.. After EYEBALLERS I personally didn’t expect you to get back into the game. What made you decide to join up with Team PC Gamer (now riZe) this year?
Well, when I left EYEballers, I didn't want to leave CoD, I asked some of the top-clans around at that time (including Levitation/Supermen, which kinda was the clan I wanted to join the most) but they all had a 5/6 man lineup, and no room for another one, so I didn't really have to much of a choice, I did want to play CoD, but I had no intention to wait a week or two for a clan to show up. So I just figured I'd give cs a try. That's why it didn't take me long to accept the offer I was given from Mick.
With the EC LANfinals coming up the team is looking very strong. In the online EC matches the team only lost once versus the WHO Crew (now Team9). How do you look towards the upcoming match-up with Europe’s best teams –ocrana, u96d, rize and team9-?
Well, it's gonna be really interesting playing them on lan, with lan-ping, and not having to deal with my connection 999'ing all the time (Hi whocrew!) plus all the 4 teams that are going, have been more or less inactive for roughly a month during this summer, so it's gonna be cool to play them, and see how it turns out ;D
Your prediction of the LANfinals?
Well, of course I hope we win (and think we will win, of course u wouldn't show up if u didnt have the intention to win right?) so I think top4 will be something like this:
1. rize
2. team9
3. u96d
4. ocrana
Has the team been practising extra hard to get everything straight before the lanfinals start?
We haven't actually been practicing at all this summer, people have been on a holiday, and we've just taken a break, moose is still on a holiday, but he'll be back soon, and we're gonna bootcamp in newcastle with dp, eximius, and some other clans (18-22nd, talk to yekoms if ur intersted in going! ;D) so that's when we're gonna start practicing.
The team is attending the Zoomby LAN in chili. How did the team come up with the idea of going all the way to Chili?
We actually got contacted by the admins of the tournament, asking if we were interested, and since we're invited there, we don't have to pay for travels or anything (they'll do that for us) it's a great opportunity to go to another country that none of us probably ever would've visited, and the prize purse is at 25$K, so, how could we not accept? =)
What kind of competition can you expect?
They did also invite some of the top american teams (revelry, iDemise) and they also invited imperio, team9, so the competition is gonna be tight, I'm just hoping the tournament does happen, and that the invited teams show up so we can get a good tournament =)
Can you point out what kind of playstyle(tempo) your team has, do you like rushes, picks, slow nades etc.?
Playstyle, well, we use our experience, and our aim to beat our opponents, we don't really have any set tactics, we just go random, try to pick peekers off and such, and then just go wherever we decided to go, which seems to work for us, ofcoures we do nades and stuff like that, but that's not what we're about, we just like to go random and pick people off, go random! that's our way ;)
Could you introduce you fellow teammates of riZe with their in-game strengths?
Mick: The teamleader, he's the one who decide where we go and such, he's also probably one of the best aimers in the game with a mg/rifle, which makes him a good allrounder.
Yekoms: He's the 'mature' guy in rize, who takes care of business. He's one of our snipers, and he can handle it scoped or unscoped, he's also very calm, which makes him a clutch player, plus he can handle the mg aswell.
moose: Moose is the guy in the team who does the most random things that pays off (Like getting on the A house MG @ carentan and getting 2 kills approximately every single round) and he's also a very good clutch player, and can handle the mg and the smg guns good.
Pain: Pain is also one of our snipers (with yekoms) and probably one of the best snipers in the game (imo). His routine and mg skills, makes him a great allrounder.
By many you are considered the best allround EU COD player. Any idea what makes you stand out from the rest? For example aim or smart play?
Well, I do handle the MG pretty well :D plus I can also handle using a smg/rifle - plus I am a very calm player, which means I am a good clutch player, that can turn a 2on5 into a 2on2 within 10 seconds, I also manage to read the opponents move, so I have a 50/50 shot at knowing what to do in a 1v2/1v1 etc. That's how I look at it anyway :)
Next to playing the game itself, you are also known for your fragmovies like Prepare to Die and Team PC Gamer: Supermen. So far all great quality. You got a personal favorite? and why?
My favorite has to be Supermen, I just felt it turned out exactly how I wanted it to be, with good frags, good quality, and good editing, which is what I think is most important in a fragmovie.
Can we expect another movie to be released, for example about the EuroCup lanfinals, like e*star did after the smauilp 2004?
Yes you can =), I am doing another movie, called riZe 2 the challenge, which will be a movie kinda like supermen, with frags from pcws/cup matches, but at the end I will have a "eurocup" part with footage from ec finals ingame, and outside the game (We're going to bring a video camera and get a lot of good footage).
Ofcourse no one knows what the future will bring, but does the team have any intentions of switching to another game after the summer? Or will they continue playing COD when the sequel is released?
We aren't quite sure yet, no one knows how CoD2 Multiplayer 2 will be, but I am sure if the game is good, we will try to play together under the rize flag, and hopefully cod2 will be as successfull as CoD was at the start, so it can get some good LAN's.
I would like to thank you for your time and cooperation. Good luck with riZe in the LANfinals! Tek-9 Networks Ltd. Wishes them the best of luck! Any shoutouts you would like to add?
Thanks to all the people who support us, and keep idling #rize & #plazma™ , and thanks for the interview =)
