After the recent departures of both zem and rapz to digitalMind, Nick 'solz' Schurink decided to leave the ranks of H2k.steelseries to join his friends at digitalMind. Nick didn’t have a successful background in vCoD but that couldn’t stop him becoming one of the best individual players the Netherlands have to offer in CoD2! With many team changes and a lot of up and downs I thought he was the right victim for my first interview for TEK9. So I decided to dig a little deeper in Nick’s mind to uncover the motives behind his recent decisions!

Nick 'solz' Schurink ? Does this name ring a bell? For the few who don’t know him, here’s a short text about what solz wrote about himself?

My name is Nick Schurink , 17 years old born in Bangkok , Thailand, but raised in the Netherlands.

Have you always played Call of Duty? Can you tell us more about your gaming history ?

No, it all started with me checking out the Multiplayer demo version of Soldier of Fortune II and I immediately got hooked on it so I bought the full version and started playing that game. After some weeks/months I noticed that I got pretty good at the game very fast , unfortunately I played the “wrong” game type to get some e-fame. After I heard of Call of Duty from some friends I wanted to check it out and I started in a pro clan called D/501 that later turned into 3.Fallschirm Jægers , yes the clan had ranks like Captain and Private, Awesome huh… I got in touch with Deka and Michael ( suXus ) who were named HUNT3R and G-UNIT (hehehe) at that time and we started to make a clan that turned out to be pure.eSports. Later I joined team-Query ( gmeX )and played with those guys until lately when I joined H2k and now rejoined zem and rapz at digitalMind.

When did you first thought you were more then just a regular gamer ?

After a few weeks/months of playing Soldier of Fortune II, I noticed that my reflexes and aim was getting faster and better so I knew that I was going to be one of the best.

With teams like Northern-darkness , temp-clan and h2k on your record. Which team did you like the most?

Hard to pick , Northern Darkness probably , because we were a “rising” clan in the scene and it was a bit of shock when we did beat the bigger and more known clans, and of course Daan “ddl” Diemer was still playing back then , always had fun playing with him.

After zem and rapz decided to leave the ranks of h2k to join up with digitalMind, did you have enough motivation left to continue with h2k?

Well , to be honest I almost did not. But I wanted to try it one more time and H2k turned out just fine I guess.

Following h2k’s website it states: “After a disappointing result against CSA in the EuroCup and a better offer, solz decided to leave us.”.  Can you comment this?

Not completely true , I don’t leave a team because we lost a match, I just really wanted to play with zem and rapz again and I now had the chance to play with them again over at digitalMind.

H2k is speaking of a better offer from dM, is this a sponsorship related offer or is it team related?

First of all it was a better offer for me and I think it is team related, not sponsorship related. I wouldn’t join another team just because of better sponsors though.

As I read in the comment section of dM’s website you were “a trial”  in the team before you joined digitalMind. For how long, and why a “trial” ?

That was a joke made by Hax0r and koning . After having a chat on IRC before the announcement. After all , why would I need a trial hehehehe….

In your statement you said: “I’m looking forward to be reunited with my friends and wish H2k-Gaming the best” . Did they have a lot of influence on your decision to join them in digitalMind?

Yes of course they did , as I said before I wanted to team up with them again and that’s why I decided to part ways with H2k.

You played with rapz and zem for such a long time, what is your relationship with them right now? Do they think it’s great you joined them after this little period of absence?

I think we get along just fine. We might have had some issues long time ago but those are over now and it turned out to be a good decision in my opinion.

For your short period in dM, can you tell me more about the goals this team wants to achieve in the near future? Did the team already decided which events to attend early 2007?

Our goal is to attend the big lans and to of course come home with the trophy. We are not sure which lans we will be able to attend because of work and other personal obligations. We do plan to attend the shgOpen , Crossfire 2 LAN , PlayZ 2 , TeK-9 LAN if everything goes like it should.

In the beginning of November, Gotfrag (www.gotfrag.com) launched the European Call of Duty 2 rankings where digitalMind placed 6th. After the addition of rapz, zem and yourself, dM surely got much stronger! Which spot do you think dM deserves to be on at this moment?

After playing some time together I think the team chemistry is just great , I already knew that the individual skill in our team was really high and that we just had to work on our teamplay and so far it is going great , so I see no reason why we couldn't be number one.

Without any prize money or LAN finals, how does the team feel towards this Clanbase Eurocup? Is the cup being taken seriously or just seen as a practice for upcoming events early 2k7?

We use the EuroCup mainly as a practice for the upcoming events. We don’t take it too seriously.

With both Eurocup and Nationscup to be played, don’t you think it’s too much? What is your opinion about the Clanbase Nationcup? A poisoned gift or a great honor?

A poisoned gift , a great honor it sure as hell isn’t. It’s a great honor to play soccer for your nation but CoD II , I don’t know. It’s too random anyway… I don’t think any nation practices for the cup besides the United Kingdom and Germany so it is just a matter of individual performance.

Can you tell us the ultimate highlight you have ever experienced in your gaming history?

Becoming 3rd at the TeK-9 LAN without playing a single practice game and having m4x as a merc.

Any last shoutouts, Christmas wishes or thanks?

Shoutouts to dM , H2k , JETSET, palmz, and the others that I forgot obviously.
