With the Multiplay i30 LAN event in Newbury, England finishing just yesterday, a fresh team comes out of offline status at LAN with high spirits. Placing second in the Call of Duty 2 tournament at i30, Reason Gaming came close to stripping Team Dignitas of their unbeaten record at iSeries LAN events in the past few events. After the main two maps were played in the final with the level of play and atmosphere in the room being very tense, Dignitas took the win on the third and final map which was Dawnville with a close score to claim first place knocking Reason Gaming into second.

Breaking into a whole new level of the scene, Reason Gaming have become a lot more popular over the last weekend as they prepare for the CPC2 this weekend which takes place in Holland and features some of the finest teams in Europe around the Call of Duty 2 scene. During the pit stop that Reason Gaming have between i30 and CPC2 I managed to catch up with team leader Junior to have a talk about their previous performance at i30 and various other future events that are upcoming for the squad.

Hi Junior, first of all could you introduce yourself to the readers?
Hey my name is Steve Drabble, alias Junior in game. I am leader for Reason Gaming Call of Duty 2. Been playing games online now for about 4/5 years, starting with the Tom Clancy's series Rogue Spear and Ravenshield before moving over to Call of Duty.

You recently attended the Multiplay i30 LAN in Newbury, England with your team Reason Gaming, what did you think of the event?
The UK's biggest LAN event of the calender, providing a venue for 1500 gamers from across europe. The event itself ran very smoothly although the prize money for Call of Duty 2 was not too great at all. The main thing though is the weekend provided a much needed bootcamp before CPC and valuable LAN experience for the team together.

Reason Gaming came second almost beating Dignitas on the final map of Dawnville, what did you think of your teams overall performance in the final?
It was a promising performance from the team but the experience of the Dignitas side proved to much. Toujane started very badly for us and it was clear that the concept of playing on stage in front of hundreds of spectators was daunting for some members and nerves appeared to overcome them. After map change we settled down and played like we could taking the game to Dignitas and picking up a map win. The final map Dawnville has always been a strong map for Dignitas and this proved too much and we couldnt overcome them. Hopefully our performance in the final has sent a reminder just in time for CPC that we ain't to be taken too lightly.

There has been a lot of speculation around your team mate Blackmane possibly being one of the best snipers in Europe at the moment, what are your thoughts on this?
I think Blackmane's performance throughout the LAN was exceptional. It took him a while to get into a rhythm in the final but when he did i believe he showed the community that maybe he can go pound for pound with trainee and the battle on Burgundy between the two was a great spectacle. The thing to remember with Blackmane is he is still relatively new to the game having only played for the last 12 months or so. One thing im sure with Chris is he will continue to improve by the game and maybe soon he will be recognised as one of Europes top few snipers if not already.

The Multiplay i30 LAN didn't attract too many big teams from across Europe for Call of Duty 2, this is because of the small prize pot mainly, do you think this restricts the community from the UK scene a bit in terms of offline events?
It definitaly restricts the UK community as the prize winning for i30 falls along way short of covering the entry and travel costs for the event. Im pretty sure myself along with Dignitas if our entry to the event wasnt payed maybe it would not be worth attending ourselves, but i shouldn't really say that. In the past few iSeries events the Call of Duty 2 prize money has reached substantially more than i30, like i29 for example the prizepurse stood at £3300 which is nearly 5000 euros. Maybe at future events such as i31 if the game can get the neccessary backing to reach similar funds we might then see teams travelling from across Europe to attend.

Onto the Crossfire 2 LAN now which is this weekend, how will Reason Gaming prepare for the upcoming event?
Well we go into the event obviously straight from the back of an iSeries which is invaluable LAN experience. The team are travelling down to Holland early on the Wednesday for a nights chilling in Amsterdam, where I will be looking to get myself some hoes. We are going to get the train early on Thursday across to event to see if we get get our hands on a few rigs early to get some further practise in during the day.

Do you think team spirits will be a lot better then usual coming out of i30 with such a positive performance?
Yeah I'm sure it will help the team a great deal. Although we lost the event im hoping we will carry a great momentum across with us to Holland. I think we are going to get Blackmane on the chronic in Amsterdam to chill him the fuck out as he wont stop going on about his performance at the event.

You have been put into Group D for the event which features one of Germanys top teams SPEEDLINK who went in-active a few month back, do you think their come back ont othe scene will be successful or not?
Yeah I can guarantee that. We played against our German friends a few times in fun wars recently and they appeared in fine form. Pretty sure it will be a successful event for them, but ain't had chance to see how any of their online results have been versus other top five teams, so all will be revealed come this weekend, but im pretty sure they will surprise a few so soon after their comeback.

So what standing do you predict Reason Gaming to come in after the event has finished? Are you expecting a high standing or will the other teams get the best of you?
Its hard to predict. Online our performances and results have been quite strong, but offline its a totally new ballgame. Im always optimistic and hoping we will gain qualification from our group to the playoff stage, best case scenario would be a top 4 finish. Maybe this is perhaps out of our reach but theres no harm in aiming high so thats what we will set our sights on and who knows on our day we might cause a few upsets.

The Intel Extreme Core Duel Challenge will start soon and is a big plus for the UK scene in Call of Duty 2, do you think it will boast the UK community a bit in eSports?
Well the Intel Challenge is a great boost for the UK Call of Duty and Counter Strike Source communities, as its the first UK competetion in Call of Duty 2 to date where teams of all ability are allowed to enter and compete for a great prize purse. It will be a great opportunity for the lesser skilled teams to have there chance at beating some of the more known teams within the UK. The tournament will start to get really interestering after the group stages when it enters the knockout.

The EuroCup XV has recently kicked into action and will start after the Crossfire event, how do you find the EuroCup XV organisation this time compared to the previous seasons?
This event appears much better organised. There have been no major cock-ups to date, in comparison to the last EuroCup where as soon as the teams were announced there was the whole hMg/[R] debate. I am also impressed with the qualifing system this EuroCup, which gives more teams the opportunity to compete for the lucrative final spots in the event. The most attractive thing with this seasons EuroCup is of course the LAN finals and prize money on offer, which last season couldn't boast.

Drawing to an end now I will ask about your team mates in Reason Gaming, explain a bit about each of them.
KarL - Our pikey Irish member. Lives on a remote island named Craggy Island just off the west coast of the country. KarL is the most agressive member of the squad and is known for his ability to push up and get amounst the opposition. This comes with its flaws however as 99% of games KarL is the teams bottom fragger. Something he has become well known for in the community.

NiGGLE - In my opinion a highly under rated player and surely one of the strongest players on show in the UK at this moment. Our most consistant performer and no matter what weapon, be it rifles or SMG's he's always racking up frags on the scoreboard.

Blackmane - Our youngest member at just 16. Has unrivalled abilty with a scope and in the tough games Chris is known to pull out a great performance to carry us through. His downfall however is his ego and whine in game, which has taken a while but I believe we are now starting to get under control. He also has a shit haircut and looks like a cabbage patch kid.

tORSh - Our Viking. Excellent with SMG's and once set a task has an ability to lock down and take control of areas of the map. Not rare to hear cries on Ventrilo from the lumberjack 'Not in the black man's kitchen'.

phonic9
- Billy has alot of internet problems at this moment which is restricting him to a role as the teams 6th member. You never hear billy complaining of this however and when called upon is extremely competetant with any weapon and can fill in almost any position on any map. Loved by all members and a great guy to have about on vent. Just needs to crack on with a team frag movie ty.

How do you find yourself in the team, are you a good fit compared to the former members of the team in the past?
I would like to think so, when the other core guys were together in Trademark Gamers they always showed alot of potential but never really had a breakthrough. Without trying to boost my own ego maybe the guys do now perform slightly better with myself as the fifth member, leading the team both in and out of game.

Thanks for your time to do this interview Junior, do you have any shoutouts to wrap it up?
Yeah thanks for the interview Mike, also thanks to the whole Reason Gaming clan and my team and also Gladiator Computers for
supporting us at LAN.

Good luck to Reason Gaming going into CPC2 this weekend, I'm sure they will do their best to conquer the rest of the scene!
