page 1: Interview
LowLandLions have gone from strength to strength in the past few months that they have been together. Starting out as In Rectum Love with many Belgian members, the team decided to take a more serious side towards Call of Duty 2 after placing fifth at the Outpost on Fire 2 event last July and fourth in the recently held ClanBase EuroCup XV LAN Finals held in Holland. After being picked as one of the qualifier teams for the EuroCup XV, they progressed through both the group stages and playoffs to a final fifth standing but with the recent split of the Logitech.fi team meant they would no longer be attending the LAN finals. With only days to go LowLandLions were called up and they attended the event where they nearly overcame TeK-9 in their first match losing out in over time (17:19).
This hasn't knocked their confidence though, now known as one of the best teams in Europe and the best team in Belgium, LowLandLions aren’t afraid to carry on their growing rampage. Putting a side their plans for the future in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the team will soon be practicing for the Crossfire Devotii Challenge 3 event where they will come across teams such as TeK-9 and Serious-Gaming. I had the chance to speak to Stevy, one of the team’s fine members to catch up on their experience after the EuroCup XV LAN Finals and get his views on the team in whole and how they became so big, so quick.
Welcome Stevy how are you today? If you'd like to introduce yourself to the readers that would be great.
I'm fine mate thanks. I’m Stevy, I’m 16 years old and I play for LowLandLions.
A week or so after your attendance at the ClanBase EuroCup XV finals, how are the team doing now?
Well at the moment the atmosphere is really chilled. Sticky returned from holiday today so we should start practicing for the Crossfire Devotii Challenge 3 event soon.
You guys really came close to defeating TeK-9 in the first match of the event but unfortunately you lost out in overtime, how did this effect your motivation overall?
It effected my motivation a bit. To be honest we were winning against TeK-9 and we just kind of blew it but you couldn't blame anyone. I'm not making excuses but I was disappointed and it affected my play style a bit but nevertheless H2k deserved and they were playing good with Tekin shooting me through the smoke. :(
None the less you guys gave it a good shot, how was it winning some prize money at such a major LAN event? Eventful I'm sure?
Well it wasn't our first time. We ended fifth at the Outpost on Fire 2 event but of course we were happy that we could attend on such a short notice and we were surprised also.
About the Outpost on Fire 2 event, you guys really did show that you have the potential to be a big team by defeating teams such as Impact and Komacrew, do you think you have what it takes to be one of the top ten teams in Europe at the moment?
Yes we do. Our motivation, practice and team play is always really good. At LAN we're even more motivated but this is our first year together and we've got a lot of learning to do. But for me this is my first everything, including first EuroCup, first LAN etc.
Starting out as IRL, the team was supposed to be a fun team with no serious play in mind at all, what changed all this?
Well one day I was mixing with Woobai and Sloom. I knew Sloom from the original Call of Duty and we kind of started talking and we were planning to make our own team because we both wanted a serious team but in the end Yazzy & I joined IRL. We started to become serious after the Crossfire Prizefight Challenge 2 qualifiers and we were also in the EuroCup XV qualifiers so that was the 'sign' to start playing more serious.
Whilst I and the other ClanBase crew were picking the qualifier teams for the EuroCup XV, you guys were a clear choice from all of us to be in the qualifiers, do you think actually being picked and making it through to the playoffs was a good start for the team?
Yes of course, it gave us a huge confident boost to practice even harder. We were practicing very hard for the EuroCup and the Outpost on Fire 2 event and we got a lot of respect from other teams and players in my opinion.
I have always thought of you guys of 'the little team that could' from the beginning and now that statement is true. How does it feel to be on top of Belgium in Call of Duty 2 and more importantly a top team and player in the whole of Europe?
It feels really, really good in my opinion. We've worked hard for it and for me it was really hard. I'm the youngest player and I was the most unknown player because I just got my new computer thanks to my bro Yazzy and I could finally play Call of Duty 2. So I started to play last year in November and one year later I'm in LowLandLions and I'm really thankful for the opportunity I got.
You've come so far in the space of just over three months, do you see your team as a potential top team in Call of Duty 4 also?
I do. We're all looking forward and we're going to practice from day one.
Last but not least a little discussion on the highly anticipated Call of Duty 4. Looking forward to the new features and different era of war?
Yeah we are. I don't look at those discussions so I'll just wait until it's out and decide for myself whether I like it or not. And of course with PAM the game should be even better just like in the beginning of Call of Duty 2, a lot of fog etc. then PAM mode came out and it was really nice.
Any features in specific that you are looking forward too in the game?
Well just the new weapons actually, the AK47, M4 etc. I just like those weapons. :) And well one player carrying the bomb also, I like it, makes the game harder.
Personally I think the game will be a lot more difficult to get used too than Call of Duty 2, do you think this will be a threat to the current skill you hold in Call of Duty 2?
Not at all, I can adapt to all games and so can my team mates.
