page 2: The Man Behind

Tomas Hansson
Tomas Hansson AKA samot, the man (with crew of course) running the biggest Counter-Strike e-Sport site in Scandinavia, and I almost dare to say the biggest eSports site covering Counter-Strike in Europe but as my facts isn´t that foolproof, I´ll stay with Scandinavia. He lives in Stockholm, Sweden with his mum, dad and his brother Filip Hansson and is studying at university as a 21 year old.

So tell me Tomas, how does a normal weekday look for you, describing it briefly?
Samot:
A normal weekday probably begins with me waking up at 7-8 in the morning and taking care of all the usual morning stuff. I might check the site quickly, and then I’m off to school. My school schedule varies a lot, but on most days I’m home around 15-16 in the afternoon. I then do the daily dose of Fragbite work (e-mails, user messages and a bunch of minor things). After a couple of hours of that, I spend most of the evening with school work and throw in some Fragbite related stuff every now and then. Before bedtime I usually watch some episode of some TV series and end up sleeping sometime around 1 in the night.

What is it your studying at the university? And is it something you regret choosing or was it a good/perfect choice for you?
Samot:
I’m currently studying computer science at KTH and business administration and economics at the University of Stockholm. You always reevaluate the choices you’ve made, but I think that overall I’m very happy with the choices I’ve made as far as school goes.

What other hobbies do you have other than spending time on Fragbite?
Samot:
School and Fragbite definitely are the things taking up most of my time right now. Other than that I enjoy a good movie, or just spending time with my family.

Has your work with Fragbite disturbed/intruded on your private life, or are you
self-disciplined enough to keep them apart? That may sound a bit weird so to make an easy example would be, have you ever had to, lets say rush a school paper or maybe jumped a couple of pages when studying for a test to write an article or something else on Fragbite?
Samot: I think it would be almost impossible for any big interest not to inflict on school at all, but I think I’m pretty good at not letting Fragbite get in the way of school – at least these last years.

Almost the same question again, has your work disturbed/intruded on your social life, for example if you had to skip your mum’s birthday or something similar to maybe fly to an event to cover?
Samot: Actually I think I have spent some birthday off at some event, but looking at the big picture there haven’t really been that much that have collided. We don’t travel that much. We’re rarely off to events more than five or six times a year, and mostly we know the events well in advance so it’s not that big of a problem.

Roadrunner
How are your nerves/patience when you can´t reach Fragbite on a normal day? Are you like Donald Duck thinking “Nah, it´s probably a temporary problem” and go chill out in your sofa or are you more like the Road Runner straight to the phone calling your datacenter saying “meep meep”?

Samot: I’m a pretty calm person, and we can do most of the problem solving from any computer connected to the Internet so I mostly just sit down and look at the problem :)

As we are a bit of a CoD based website I have to ask the question, have you played CoD2/4 and if so what do you think about it?
If not, what do you usually play?
Samot:
I think I played the single player of the first Call of Duty when it first came out and people said it would be the Counter-Strike killer. Other than that I can’t really recall having played any game more than a few minutes other than Counter-Strike for the past years. Counter-Strike is my game of choice when I play :)

A fantastic piece of e-sport journalism, refreshing to see you ask some questions that alot of people wouldnt normally ask. The ones that interested me where the ones to do with the site setup and about the crew of the site and how they manage their time.
I hope to see fragbite at some point covered in english. Although some of the translations of interviews they've done in the past have been enjoyable long may this continue!

good job.
