page 4: Football and FIFA

I've been interested in the individual chosing of Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA for a while now. Why do you chose to play FIFA competitively over Pro Evolution Soccer?
I think both are fine games to play however, I prefer FIFA for its more arcade approach. I think Pro Evolution Soccer is more realistic, with that comes inconsistency with how the game actually plays so you can play better than an opponent but still lose. This problem still lies in FIFA but I don't think it does as much as Pro Evolution Soccer. For that reason I don't think I could ever try to play Pro Evolution Soccer professionally. I may be missing something and will happily admit to not playing the 2008 version of the game yet, so things could change therefore my evaluation is probably inaccurate.

On that note of football, which team do you support?
I support my Local team Ipswich Town nowadays. I also follow Chelsea but over the years I have lost my interest in them and the when Jose Mourinho was sacked, I kind of switched teams. It's funny that now Ipswich Town have just had aload of money pumped into them ... maybe I have a special gift and I'll try supporting Derby and see what happens.

If you were the manager of the England national football team, what would your dream team be from the selection of English players?
I would go with David James in goal every time. Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Micah Richards, David Beckham, Owen Hargreaves, Steven Gerrard, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Emile Heskey and Michael Owen.

Back to the eSports now, and from your personal point, what makes a good FIFA player?
I think first, you have to have a good football mind, it might not be the most critical skill needed but a good tactician in that respect can always put a player a couple of steps ahead of the game. Another important skill I believe is logic, FIFA is a great mind game and setting your pieces up like chess. The aim is to get in that crucial check position and then score. Same goes for defensive values by not letting your opponent in them goal areas which differ from each FIFA. Reactions and a quick mind are obvious skills for all video games anyway.

You've been a FIFA player for quite a while now, do you think the FIFA scene is as big as it will get, or do you think it could get even bigger in eSports in the future?
I think FIFA can get alot bigger. The fan base for the game is obviously out their however, the community in some countries like the UK isn't what it should be. I think Championship Gaming Series will have a big impact on changing this, so for me FIFA can only get bigger.

You say the FIFA community isn't like it should be in the UK, why do you think this?
On the XBOX 360 and the PlayStation 3, the community in the UK is probably one of the best in the world, however, the PC scene isn't as big, which is probably down to the nature of UK culture where console gaming generally dominates the market. PC Games are probably unheard of by some.

best fifa player out there imo
#12 United Kingdom [R]sandford 2007-12-30 12:37:26
#11 Yes hes a fantastic player but he crumbled in L.A. Losing to arguably the weakest player on the Carolina team in 'peekay' was awful. Nice Interview on the whole.
#13 United Kingdom EpsiloBaldrick 2007-12-30 13:47:48
#12 I would not call Peekay a weak player. Skills-wise he is not as good as the other players, however his mentality is excellent; the only person in theCGS that actually managed to gain an advantage through baiting.

Great read, gl Chris.

#16 he beat manyna and xtr3me3, did he not?
#18 United Kingdom tek9.sCARFACEEe 2007-12-30 19:12:21
#16, I think Mutske means he performed well in the CGS overall, which he did.

He also came second in the individual FIFA07 tournamanet at the CGS world finals, which is a great result imo.

#21 Netherlands tek9.Quest 2007-12-31 09:39:38
Nice read.

I think FIFA07 was not the best FIFA for Chrissy, but we should also be aware of the fact that FIFA07 was a very lucky game.

By this i mean, you can play so much better, buts still lose by a AI fault ( random generated by the game).

I'm wondering how good he will do on FIWC UK, this year there will be only 1 spot so he needs to win from Bazza and his brother to get this title.

So keep on the good work Chrissy.
