The main back bone for our whole scene exists purely because of the clan’s out there, that provide the big community servers for us to play on, the very servers that may have gotten you hooked on the game in the first place. They picked most of us up when we were young little nooblets and thrust us head first into competitive play, possibly even our first lan event. I can honestly say that I know of very few people out there who look back at these days with disgust, and for that reason alone I can call these clans a success story.

We can learn a lot from the lower skill levels within our scene, how we should perceive the game with a mild temperament, how we should be able to sit back and just enjoy the surroundings we see around us, instead of taking offense at the first arguable action. The best thing about this bracket is the fact that everyone was once there, it’s not something like cod.invite that a lot of people aspire too, it’s quite simply the native home of every gamer out there. I have spoken to many top players recently about their time in this level of play and every single one of them has fond memories from the time they spent here, and I’ll tell you this, I miss the friends I made there, they were well and truly loyal and always up for a laugh, something this scene is really lacking at the moment.

What makes eSports so special is that all the people in pretty much any gaming scene are varied and from all walks of life, but in the lower brackets you can find something really special. You have young, arrogant scotsmen, egotistical englishmen as well as middle aged men (and women) sat at home in their dressing gowns. There is only one thing that links them all together, the fun and excitement of the game, along with the drive to play together with those they laugh with nearly every night. Without these individuals the whole scene would collapse within a number of weeks, there would be a lack of activity within the scene, no fresh blood rising through the ranks and a shockingly small attendance at lans, especially at local events.

The people that inhabit this skill bracket are crucial to our very existence, they are the heart of the scene that pumps life into COD4’s very fingertips. They do not receive competitive success, but they still endure to play the game they love, with those that make them enjoy it even more, and for this I beg you, give them the respect they truly deserve.
